Cream of Tartar (Tartaric Acid) for Natural Plant Dyeing Yarn Fabric

from $6.99
Priced and sold by 2 or 4oz.

Cream of Tartar (tartaric acid) is a byproduct from the sediment left behind in winemaking. In natural dyeing, it is used to acidify the dye bath (change the pH).

It is most often used in mordanting to keep wool fibers soft. I know it can make a big different depending on which natural dyestuff I'm using, to keep the fibers from feeling more stiff and harsh.

I use about 1 teaspoon per skein of yarn when natural dyeing.
