This is natural red Eri silk combed top. Also known as Endi or Errandi, Eri is silk spun from open-ended cocoons. Eri silk is the product of the domesticated silkworm, Philosamia ricini that feeds on castor leaves.
Eri silk is processed without killing the silkworm. Eri silkworms spin short segments of a filament and creates a cocoon that is open at one end – enabling the moth to emerge. Often referred to as the “peace silk,” Eri is very popular among vegans and Buddhists because no harm is done to the moth.
Eri silk is darker and heavier than other silks and blends well with wool and cotton. Eri silk has excellent thermal properties, staying cool in summer and warm in winter.
