Beginner Natural Dye Kit for Jar (Jar NOT Included) Yarn Dyeing Natural Plant Dyes Earth Friendly Fiber Jar Dye Fibre Mordant
from $12.99
Jar not included. Everything else you need is included.
This is a beginner kit of everything you need to begin naturally dyeing a skein of yarn, wool or silk scarf that is about 4oz, or fits in a 1/2 gallon or gallon jar. You provide the jar, and the water, and choose whether you want yarn with it or not. I'll provide the mordant, natural dyes and instructions.
I had been selling a beginner natural dye jar to dye a 2-color skein of yarn, but I can no longer get the taller, narrower 1/2 gallon jar that held the yarn vertically in the narrower jar so that you could put the one natural dye in the top of the jar and the other in the bottom of jar, for a 2-tone skein. These types of jars are available easily as glass jars, but I don't want to have to worry about shipping glass jars!! So, with this kit.....you provide the style of glass jar that you want and the water!
A taller, narrower glass jar will provide more vertical space inside the jar to keep 2 colors separated, with one on top and the other on bottom. Probably the darker dye color, or more potent dye color will be better on the bottom of the jar.
Choose the natural dyes you'd like. If you want a single natural dye for dyeing just a single color, then pick that. The 2 dyes in one jar will give you a naturally dyed variegated skein!
- Cochineal + Logwood (pink & lavender)
- Cochineal + Heather (pink & peach)
- Madder + Cochineal (orange & pink)
- Madder + Logwood (orange & lavender)
- Weld + Cochineal (yellow/peach & pink)
- Logwood + Heather (lavender & yellow/green)
- Cochineal (pink)
- Logwood (lavender)
- Madder (orange)
You can choose to add one of the following yarns or no yarn!:
- Fingering - 100% Superwash Domestic Merino - 400 yards
- Worsted - 100% Peruvian Highland Wool - 220 yards
- Worsted - 100% Superwash Domestic Merino - 218 yards
- Bulky - 100% Superwash Domestic Merino - 120 yards
Dyeing in jars with natural dyes makes natural dyeing easy. There is no fooling around with pre-mordanting in other 'dye only pots' with 'dye only tools'. You can use the jar as a 'solar jar' but you don't need to set the jar in the sun for additional solar heat if you don't want to. Adding hot tap water will give you all the heat you need.
You will receive a set of instructions with your dye & mordants. Additional skeins of undyed yarn are available in the 'Yarn' section of my shop, if you need to purchase more yarn for your jar.
It is a lot of fun to watch watch a dye jar on your windowsill any time of year, even winter! I love to see the colorful jar sitting on the window sill catching the winter sun, reminding me of the colors of spring plants and flowers.
I ship all my products as quickly as possible.
