This is Blue Faced Leicester wool combed top from our small flock of registered Blue Faced Leicester sheep here at Walnut Farm. This fiber is a warm neutral, heathered color because I had the mill blend our two naturally colored ewe's fleece in with the other white fleeces.

The staple length of this fiber is a nice, long 5-6". The fiber is soft as Blue Faced Leicester wool goes. Because it is combed wool, it is absolutely perfect, without neps/noils or chaff. The color is a soft, off-white, and perfect to leave the color it is, or to dye. This wool is excellent for a beginner as well as the experienced. You can spin the finest thread with this wool, or, I believe it will yield an even heavier weight yarn, if you prefer.

This fiber was combed by Zeilinger's Wool Mill in MI, and that extra step of preparation really makes the difference, because I really, really dislike neps and vm in my wool! The combing process does yield a smaller amount of wool at the end because short fibers, neps and vm are all taken out, but the end product is better and worth it!

Blue Faced Leicester wool is curly instead of crimpy, so it has less memory, but has shine and drape. I spun up a sweater in a fingering weight and I love the fabric, because it is thin, but drapey. The sweater is pictured.
