Chalk - Calcium Carbonate for Natural Plant Dyeing
from $8.99
Priced and sold by 2 or 4oz.
Calcium Carbonate, also referred to as chalk, is a white powdered mineral that is often used in a madder dye bath to deepen the color. It is also one of the principle minerals in hard water. Calcium Carbonate is higher in pH, so it is able to shift the colors of natural dyes that are sensitive to pH changes. It is said that the best Madder reds are achieved by adding some chalk and when dyeing with Sappanwood/Eastern Brazilwood, a bit of chalk will give your more blue-red to purple shades.
Calcium Carbonate is a natural dye additive used to adjust pH and modify the color of certain dye baths.
