This is Dyer's Coreopsis, 'Coreopsis Tinctoria', Plains Coreopsis seed. This Dyer's Coreopsis has wider petals than the other Dyer's Coreopsis I sell. I planted the two kinds close to each other and I think I kept the seeds separate enough that I didn't pick the wrong heads when I went to save the seed! If there is any mixture, they are both Dyer's Coreopsis, so they will give the same color!
Coreopsis Tinctoria is a sun-loving annual flower, growing about 18" tall.
To dye the yarn pictured, I used yarn pre-mordanted with alum, and about 2 handfuls of flowers. You can see that the flowers gave quite a bit of color! You can pick the flowers and freeze them until you have enough to dye with, or some people dry them as well.
The seeds are very light and very small. These are grown here in my gardens.
50+ seeds per packet.
