Indigofera Suffruticosa Seed Blue - Guatamalan indigo, anil natural dye garden plant

$9.99
30 seeds per packet.

Indigofera Suffruticosa seed is commonly known as Guatamalan indigo, anil or small leaved indigo. It is a flowering plant in the pea family. It is native to the subtropical and tropical Americas. It is commonly used as a source for indigo dye. It was used to produce Maya blue, which was a pigment used by Mesoamerican civilization.

Indigofera Suffruticosa grows slowly unless it is in 80+ degree weather. It is not hardy to freezing weather outside, though it does make it through some cold weather in the southern U.S., but it won't live if planted in ground that freezes. I live in zone 6b in Pennsylvania, but I have a heated greenhouse to over-winter it in large pots. It has grown tall and lush over 2 seasons in large pots. It can grow up to 7' tall if it likes where it is planted.

In my greenhouse environment where I over-winter it, it is very prone to a black aphid, so I need to spray it with a spray bottle with a little liquid dish detergent to kill them.
