Iron Mordant 1, 2 or 4oz Ferrous Sulphate for Natural Plant Dye for Yarn Protein Dyes Earth Friendly Fiber Wool Silk Dyeing Printing Sulfate
from $7.99
Priced and sold by 1, 2 or 4 oz.
1oz only amounts to about 2 tablespoons worth because this is a heavy granule.
This is iron (ferrous sulphate) for use as a mordant on fibers for natural dyeing. I purchased this iron for myself from a natural dye company that serves commerical natural dye companies around the world.
Iron (ferrous sulfate) is called copperas. It will sadden or darken colors, bringing out green shades. Iron can be added to the dye bath directly or used as a post-dye bath to change the color.
Iron works very well for turning yellows from many common plants, green, or turning reds to burgundies or purples.
Too much iron can make wool brittle. Iron can be used in small amounts with cotton or wool, but is not recommended for silk. Silk is more sensitive to UV light and damage to fibers is accelerated by oxygen and UV light when iron is present on the fibers.
