Natural Dye Jar Kit for Solar Yarn Dyeing with Natural Plant Dyes - just add water - Earth Friendly Yarn Fiber Kit Mordant Beginner
from $14.99
*Do not buy this jar, if you want perfect results and are going to be disappointed with anything less than perfection. This jar does not have the space of a large dye pot, so the fibers/mordants and dyes are scrunched into a small space, which is likely to cause more dye to reach one spot of the yarn and not another. Make sure to distribute the dye around the yarn and shake the jar to distribute the dye/color throughout the yarn and jar. This jar is meant to be an easy introduction to natural dyeing.*
This jar is an easy way for beginners to dabble in natural dyeing and realize that it's not that hard! When I had wanted to get into natural dyeing, the words all seemed so foreign and it just seemed overwhelming, but dyeing yarn in a jar like this was exactly the easy, jumping-off point that I needed to realize that it wasn't difficult.
This jar kit comes with easy to follow instructions plus everything you need to easily, and quickly start natural dyeing on your windowsill with your choice of natural dye. You can use this jar as a 'solar' jar, but really, solar power isn't needed, because the hot water you add will provide all the heat you need. If you want to, you can set this in the sun, if not, that is fine as well.
Non superwash wool takes dye a little less deeply or quickly than Superwash wool. Non-superwash wool can felt from changes in water temperature, whereas Superwash wool will not felt, so you have a choice of superwash non-felting wool yarn, or regular wool yarn that will felt from water temperature changes and agitation in hot water. I may add cotton (cellulose) options in the future, or on request.
You are able to choose which 4oz skein of yarn you would like:
- Fingering - Domestic Superwash Merino, 400yds
- Worsted - Peruvian Highland Wool (not superwash), 220yds
- Worsted - Superwash Merino, 218yds
- Bulky - Superwash Merino, 120yds
- no yarn option - just receive the dyes and additives, instructions and jar, but no yarn
Choose the natural dye you'd like with your jar. This dye jar kit is for dyeing with one single natural dye for one single color:
- Cochineal (pink)
- Madder (orange)
- Logwood (lavender)
- Weld (soft yellow)
This kit makes a great gift and I find this especially fun to do in winter as I wish and hope for spring! I love to see the colorful jar sitting on the window sill catching the winter sun, reminding me of the colors of spring plants and flowers.
I ship all my products as quickly as possible.
