The kit includes: a drop spindle w/ leader string attached, 2 or 4oz of Merino wool, and an easy to follow instruction sheet with pictures! The directions also include links to youtube videos for the 'park and draft' method of drop spindling, how to ply on a drop spindle, and how to finish your yarn! I include these links because I am a visual learner!

Learning to drop spindle before moving on to using a spinning wheel is a must! I am an impatient person and did not want to learn how to use a spindle before I hopped right on a spinning wheel, but it is an invaluable first step to learn how to draft, and learn how the yarn twists. It was much more fun, easier, and quicker than I had imagined. It's easy to do it while watching tv, and easy to take it with you when traveling!

It is best for beginner spinners to learn on a longer staple length wool, and this Merino wool does not have as long a staple length as a wool like Corriedale, but it can be used to learn and is softer, with a 3" length.

Conventionally, longer staple wool is recommended, but it can be a detriment to some new spinners, because they don't hold their hands far enough apart and end up holding onto the other end of the fiber that they are trying to draft out! So, in this case, a shorter staple wool can be helpful.
