Common names for this natural wood dye are Yellow Fustic, Old Fustic, Dyer’s Mulberry. The Botanical name is Morus Tinctoria or Maclura Tinctoria.

This tree originates in Central America and is often found from Mexico to Argentina.

Yellow Fustic is a big tree with a cylindrical trunk and grey-yellowish bark, and thorny branches.

Fustic wood chips give a nice earthy yellow, and have been used in the past to dye military uniforms green. You can obtain olive greens by adding iron to the bath, or post dye bath. Beautiful teal, jade and emerald greens can be obtained by dyeing with Fustic and Saxon Blue extract.

Fustic can be combined with Logwood for earthy purples, and grays. You can combine it with Madder or Cochineal for various shades or orange and corals.

I will include an information sheet on dyeing with Fustic.
