Sandalwood wood powder, Red Sandalwood - Pterocarpus antalinus, come from a tree native to India and Indonesia. The heartwood yields oranges, browns and auburn shades of color. I didn't put a whole lot of extract in the pot when I dyed these skeins of yarn, and I'm sure I could have gotten a deeper color, if I'd used more, but I feel like I actually got deeper color, by extracting the color with alcohol from sandalwood chips. This extract gave a really nice, sunny, light orange easily.


Make sure to mordant your fiber before dyeing with sandalwood.
