These are needle or hook size stitch markers to attach to your knitted or crochet project, so that you can remember what hook size you were working with, or what knitting needle size you were using on a particular part of a project, like a neckline or cuff. I find them useful to marking my gauge swatches as well, and actually wash and dry my gauge swatch with the marker right on the swatch so I don't get mixed up!
