Top Whorl Drop Spindle Bottom Whorl Beginner Spindle for Wool Yarn Spinning Handspun Roving Beginner spindle Student Spindle Handspinning
$10.99
This listing is for the drop spindle and directions only. This listing does NOT include roving fiber.
Walnut Farm Design's Beginner's Drop Spindles are easy to use, lightweight and a great, inexpensive way to begin spinning your own yarn! It is easy, fast, fun and best of all.....low cost!
You can choose a Top or Bottom Whorl Spindle, and round or treaded whorl. Note the two styles pf whorls in the pictures. The round whorl spindle weighs in at 1.6oz and the treaded spindle weighs 1.7-1.8oz.
There is no big difference between the two whorls, it's mainly just a matter of style. Both are on an 11" hardwood shaft.
You get:
-1 unfinished drop spindle with leader string and brass finished hook & instructions w/ pictures & links. **(Roving pictured is not included in this listing.) Please buy the kit listing if you would like roving.
The whorl is 2 1/2" in diameter and 3/4" deep. The shaft is 3/8" and 11" long. I make them 11" long because I feel that 12" is a little too long, but shorter than 11" and you may run out of room for your hands to hold the stem and wind on all the yarn you spin!
Spindles weigh 1.6-1.8oz. I prefer this weight, because it's not too heavy and not too light. When I began spinning, I started with too heavy a spindle, which caused the yarn to slip on the hook once much yarn was added to the shaft.
You can paint or stain this spindle to make it your own!
Learning to drop spindle before moving on to using a spinning wheel is a must! I am an impatient person and did not want to learn how to use a spindle before I hopped right on a spinning wheel, but it is an invaluable first step to learn how to draft, and learn how the yarn twists. It was much more fun, easier, and quicker than I had imagined. It's easy to do it while watching tv, and easy to take it with you when traveling!
Comes from a pet-free, smoke free home and made with care to spread the joy and love of spinning your own fiber! Shipped via USPS First Class, which ships quickly anywhere in the country.
